Just what do you think you're doing, Dave? Volkswagen and Stanford University, is now opening a new Volkswagen Automotive Innovation Lab on campus as part of the school of engineering. Previously they have been collaborating to produce... well... autonomous vehicles. Started with the DARPA Grand Challenge in 2005 with Stanley, the vw touareg with a bolt on mainframe to Junior the Passet in the Urban Challenge 2007, they have now set their sights much higher.... iterally.. at Pike's Peak with a far more elegant solution:
This Audi TT RS is going to scale Pike's Peak, with 4 wheel drive drift and all.
As for something more conventional, autonomous parking:
It wont be long now till we have cars that can drive and park themselves.
Will we start seeing racing cars that race themselves too? :P
